Pakistan Mobile App Award (ICT Activity)

ICT in inclusive society should be affordable and accessible, they significantly improve the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society.

The awards were given with cash prize of Rs. 300,000. to 1st position holder Mr. Abdul Ghafar and his team for developing the app “Smart Devices”. 2nd position was won by Ms. Sumayya Munir with cash prize of Rs. 200,000 for developing the “Tell Me” app. Whereas 3rd position with cash prize of Rs 100,000 won by Mr. Hatham Nasar and his team for developing app “Rollout”. During the ceremony PTA also appreciated the efforts of two more apps with cash prize of Rs. 50,000 each, Dr. Amir Rashid Ch. and his team for app “Accurate Position Marking” and Dr. Hammad Mehmood Cheema and his team on app “ICataract”.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr. Mumnoon Hussain said that, Government took many initiatives for development of information technology (ICT) in Pakistan, undoubtedly, the fund have been provided for the initiation of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in collaboration with Special Talent Exchange Program (STEP) conferred awards with cash prizes to the winners of “Pakistan Mobile App Awards 2016”.

Honorable President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mr. Mumnoon Hussain presented awards to the winners of the competition during a ceremony held at Islamabad on January 31, 2017. Federal Minister of State for IT and Telecom Ms. Anusha Rahman Khan, Chairman PTA, Dr. Syed Ismail Shah, Secretary and CEO, Telenor, Mr. Irfan Wahab were also present on the occasion. The event was attended by the representatives from the Government, MoIT, Telecom Industry, Academia, NGOs, INGOs and Ambassadors.

It is to be highlighted that, total 30 proposals in cross disability groups were received which were later on scrutinized and evaluated by a committee of IT and Software experts through a transparent procedure of marking. All submissions to the competition were subject to pre-defined criteria including uniqueness, value to public, functionalities, sustainability and quality of the mobile application.
