Empowering Persons with Disabilities on Voting Rights

On February 1, 2023, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) conducted a vital awareness session aimed at empowering Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) by educating them about their right to vote. This significant event took place at the Centre for Inclusive Development, located in the National Library, Islamabad. The initiative was conducted with the valuable support of the Special Talent Exchange Program (STEP).

The primary objective of this session was to ensure that PWDs are fully aware of their voting rights and the procedures involved in the electoral process. The ECP, committed to fostering inclusivity and equal participation, emphasized the importance of every vote in shaping the future of the country.

During the event, ECP representatives provided detailed information about the voting process, addressing specific concerns and questions raised by the attendees. They highlighted the various accommodations and assistance available to PWDs to facilitate their participation in elections, ensuring that no one is left behind in the democratic process.

In addition to the informative session, the ECP also distributed Form 21, which is crucial for voter registration. Attendees were given the opportunity to fill out and submit their forms on the spot, streamlining the registration process and encouraging immediate action.

This event marked a significant step towards inclusivity and equal rights, reinforcing the ECP’s dedication to ensuring that every citizen, regardless of their abilities, has the opportunity to exercise their democratic right to vote. The collaboration with STEP underscores the collective effort to create an inclusive society where everyone’s voice is heard.
