Provincial Consultation and Training Workshop on Disability Rights and Assistive Technology Held in Nowshera, KP

January 21, 2025 – Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) hosted a landmark Provincial Consultation and Training Workshop under the Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub) and Special Talent Exchange Program (STEP). This event was part of the #AT2030programme, funded by #UKAid, and aimed at strengthening disability rights advocacy and building sustainable ecosystems for Assistive Technology (AT) in Pakistan.

Organized by STEP in collaboration with Nowshera Special People Welfare Organization (NEPWO), the workshop brought together policymakers, representatives from Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to address critical challenges in AT access, disability rights advocacy, and OPD capacity building.

Key Highlights of the Workshop

✅ Advocacy & Awareness: The workshop emphasized the need to strengthen OPDs to drive policy reforms and ensure disability inclusion at all levels.
✅ Legislative Gaps: Participants reviewed existing disability laws and advocated for stronger implementation to protect the rights of PWDs.
✅ Assistive Technology for All: Discussions focused on overcoming barriers to AT affordability and accessibility, ensuring no one is left behind.
✅ Skills & Vocational Training: The session highlighted the importance of equipping OPDs and PWDs with skills for sustainable livelihoods.
✅ Stronger Engagement: Local OPDs in Nowshera showcased remarkable activism, engaging with government and social welfare stakeholders to advocate for disability rights.
